OUTLOOK 2024
Digital Infrastructure: Capacity catch-up and spending expansions
AI investments will remain a massive driver of expansion in this space: The market for graphics processing units is expected to grow another 70% in 2024 and accelerator revenues—which in 2023 were on pace to pass those of traditional CPUs for the first time—won’t be far behind when it comes to growth.
That breakneck pace has pushed owners and operators of data centers to flex their own muscles to keep up, both at facilities already in operation and at those making their way from the drawing board after a spending freeze of sorts.
Researchers at Dell’Oro Group expect 4% growth in global data center capex in 2024 but see hyperscale cloud service providers such as Amazon and Meta to ramp spending by 11%.
